Honeymoon Trip Report: Day 1

Bear with me for the next few days- Michael and I went to St. Lucia for our honeymoon where I shot nearly 1.500 pictures. I also kept a trip diary each day so that we could always remember our wonderful trip! I’m basically going to copy/paste the trip report from each day onto here with a few pictures to go along with it. So sit back, relax, and enjoy our honeymoon!

We woke up at the ass crack of dawn (2:30 am) to leave for the Philly airport. We had two very uneventful flights (thankfully) and landed in St. Lucia around 2:00pm. It was the tiniest airport I have ever seen! (And I’ve seen some small airports). We actually had to walk out onto the runway directly from the airport and walk into the terminal. Once inside I realized just how small it was- just 2 bathrooms and a queue to line up to go through customs. We went through customs quickly (and I got my first passport stamp- yay!), grabbed our luggage and went through the claims line. Once through we were directed to the sandals lounge where we were given rum punch and waited for the shuttle to take us to the resort.
The shuttle loaded us and 6 other people (one of which said I looked nothing like Snooki after finding out that we were from NJ- she told me my hair wasn’t big enough…lol) and began driving- as soon as we started moving we all started to freak out because they drive on the opposite side of the road! Definitely a different feeling! We had a two hour drive to the resort, but there was so much to look at it went by in a flash. The roads were incredibly narrow, along with some steep hills and hairpin turns, so the drive was interesting to say the least. We saw gorgeous coastline, banana plantations, beautiful built up areas with bright houses (and not some not-so-good areas) and even a rainforest! After traveling through their capital city of Castries we arrived at our resort.
As soon as we arrived we were whisked away to a private room where we were given champagne to sip while they checked us in. We signed a few papers and they brought us to our room. Our room was adorable- a front porch with table and chairs, a king sized bed (with a heart made out of rose petals), and a huge closet system complete with a complimentary bar. The ceilings were vaulted with white beadboard, and the bathroom was very beachy too.
After we settled in we took a stroll around the property to familiarize ourselves with everything. We stopped and had a quick dinner at a beachfront bistro, and then laid on the beach to watch the sun set. While we were watching the sun set, two local men came over and used palm leaves to make origami for us- I got an angel fish and Michael got a grasshopper. In St. Lucia the grasshopper is sacred and said to bring good luck to the household, so as kids they are told to not shoo them out of the house.
Afterward, some clouds rolled in and blocked our sunset, so we continued our walk around the hotel and found the gym, quiet pool, tennis courts and the rest of the restaurants.
We headed back toward the beach, grabbed a drink from the bar and sat on a couch by a fire pit and watched the rest of the sun set. The clouds that rolled in eventually produced rain (or liquid sunshine as we were told its called) so we headed back to our room to call it a night. Our room is less than 20 yards from the ocean so we fell asleep listening to the sound of the waves crashing in the shoreline. If that isn’t relaxing I don’t know what is!
