Week 6: 2.2.15 – 2.8.15

February 2

A few weeks ago, I showed off our broccoli plant. Well, yesterday, we decided it was time to harvest it and have it for dinner! We may have waited a few too many days to pick it because it had started to flower, but it still tasted delicious!

I added a few new items to my shop! My best selling phrase is “One Day At A Time”, and it’s now featured on my favorite rectangle pendant:

Eh- not the best picture, but we’ve been having these gorgeous birds come visit our back yard- there’s 2 or 3 blue jays and a few robins. I’ve been keeping my camera by the back door trying to capture a shot, but they always fly away by the time I sneak outside.  This bird (I think its a lovebird), was just chilling in the tree this morning as the sun was coming up and I managed to snap a few sub-par pics of him before he flew away.

This might not look like much, but its a big deal to me!  All three drain plugs in the sinks in our house are broken… and have been broken since November.  After waiting months for my husband to figure it out, I got out out the tools myself and using a YouTube video made the repairs myself. It took me way longer than in probably should have, but at least I did it by myself!

I just love the newest non paper doll listed in my Etsy shop! She is of course inspired by Ariel from The Little Mermaid.

We have been having the most gorgeous weather – with a high of nearly 80* today, we spent the day outside, including grilling our dinner outside – such a summer-like day called for ending it with a round of mini golf!

Someone once told me that every time they move, they take a picture when they first arrive and when they leave at a landmark within their town to show how much they’ve changed. I loved the idea, and even though we were only in Spokane for 2 years, I did it there.  It has been so hectic since we moved to Texas that we just got around to taking our “welcome” shot here by the falls.

I may complain about having to live in Texas, but when it’s nearly 80* out in January, I have no complaints!

Week 4 – 1.19.15 – 1.25.15

January 19

I think this is literally the only picture I took for the day! After our busy and fun weekend, we slept in, and then took the dogs on a trip to Lowes to pick up some items.

A bonus to getting up with my husband before the sun rises? Sometimes you’re treated to amazing sunrises like this!

January 21

A few months ago, my mom sent me a picture of the most amazing loaf of bread, and considering we cannot get any good bread down here in Texas, I knew I had to have the recipe. While we were home for Christmas, she showed me her ways, and even got us our own kitchen scale (needed for weighing the ingredients – more accurate then measuring), and cast iron pot to cook it in.  Today I attempted it – the recipe is so exacting that you even have to take the dough’s temperature to make sure it is progressing nicely!  The bread had to be attended to all day long (about once an hour), but it was so worth it when it finally came out of the oven!

Just a quick cell shot today – Gunner’s favorite thing to do is run up and down the fence with the dog next door (on the other side of the fence) – he’s been doing it so much lately, he’s worn a rut in the grass!

Today we took the dogs hiking in the Wichita Wildlife Refuge in southern Oklahoma.  After having been to Glacier National Park, we knew that nothing would compare as far as hikes go, but it was still a fun day.  We ended up seeing lots of longhorn cattle, tons of prairie dogs and even a few bison!  This was my favorite shot of the day:

My husband and I made a pact this year to get in better shape, but since we both got sick right after the New Year, our resolution started today with a brutal workout courtesy of the program P90X

Week 3 – 1.12.15 – 1.18.15

January 12
I’m so excited to release this new item in my Etsy shop. When I first started my shop, I set out to make military support jewelry and accessories, and while they serve many purposes to many different people, a good majority of my sales still go towards military families, with a lot of them going to deployed soldiers. This little pocket pillow is the perfect gift packaging for one of my metal stamped items, and maybe even a few little love notes tucked in! I can see these being the perfect addition to any care package.

I’m still on an Etsy kick – a few new items added today, including this math necklace! If you solve for “i”, you’ll see that the answer is i ❤ u

Gunner somehow hurt his paw – he must have cut the pad of skin on the back of his leg, and wouldn’t stop licking it, so we wrapped it up, ace-bandage style. He must have known that the bandage meant he was “injured”, and he milked his injured state for all it was worth today- giving me sad faces and whimpers and the softie in me let him get away with whatever he wanted, including sleeping on the guest bed.

When we first moved into our house back in August, I planted a garden, even though I knew it was late in the season. Well, here it is, Mid-January, and my broccoli is just now sprouting – I love the warm Texas winter!  I’ve also never grown broccoli before either, but my husband suggested it since it’s his favorite vegetable. It’s really interesting to see how it grows.

The weather is finally starting to warm up (50’s and 60’s!), so today I had all the doors and windows open. Gunner found the one sunny spot and called it a day.

Today we went to a friend’s daughter’s birthday party – most 5 year olds are Frozen obsessed, and this one is no different! I made her this Elsa cake to celebrate her big day.

We’ve lived in Texas for 6 months now and have yet to really visit Dallas! We’ve driven through it and past it, but haven’t had a chance to really explore the area, and today we finally got the chance!  We ate lunch and walked around the Bishop Arts district, which had tons of really cute little shops and restaurants, and then we went downtown where we went to Thanks-Giving Square to see the spiral chapel with its spiraled stained glass ceiling.  Afterwards, we went to the Grassy Knoll, the memorial to the place where JFK was assassinated.  You can see they have marked the spot on the ground with a white X.

Lately, I feel like the only pictures I take are of my two fur-babies, so I’m going to make a cognizant effort to break out of my rut. But sometimes, they’re just so darn cute that I have to post one! Here’s Jersey in a (very) rare quite moment.

The next step in my embroidery journey is learning how to use a computer program to merge designs together to create the look that I want. I practiced today by making this design to stitch onto Jersey’s dog coat, and I couldn’t be more excited with how it came out! (Cell phone shot)

Project 365/52

Well hello there old friend.
2011 saw the year of my first project 365, which I managed to keep going for 2 years through the end of 2012. It can be found on my old blog, Snapshots of Time. Towards the end of 2012, I ran out of space on that blog, so I moved here to this blog.

I kept my picture a day going strong through 2013, and for the first half of 2014, and then… well.. I guess life happened. The first half of 2014 saw me going through my husbands deployment (with Flat Mike if you recall!), and as soon as he came home, we packed up and drove cross country to live in Alabama for a few months while he completed his training. While there, we traveled extensively in the south, and I managed to keep up with the blog up until we drove back to Washington. We took a 2.5 week drive back home, and saw so many great sights including Vegas and Disneyland. I have yet to edit pictures from that drive home, hence why I never caught up on my blog! As soon as we got back to Washington, we were in overdrive getting our house ready to pack because in July we moved to Texas! The rest of the summer and fall have been such a blur!

I’m pretty sure I still have a picture a day for the remainder of 2014, but it’ll take awhile before its all updated. So for 2015, I’m resolving to jump back on the bandwagon, except this year, I’m doing it a bit differently. While I’m still taking a photo a day, I’m only going to post them on a weekly basis, hence the 365/52 project. I look forward to following old friends and new in 2015 – the 5th year of taking a photo a day! I plan on posting the weeks events every weekend, so here we goooooo!

Week 1: January 1-4

January 1st:
Happy New Year! We just got home after a loooong 2 day drive from NJ to TX, so our New Years Day was pretty low key. We unpacked, cleaned up… and played a lot of our new favorite game, Rummikub!
1DSC_1771
January 2nd:
I got a new embroidery machine on Black Friday, and with the holidays over, I’m starting to stitch out some designs for myself. This sketch camera is one of my favorite designs, and I finally found the perfect shirt to put it on!
DSC_1791
January 3rd:
It’s a full moon tonight! This could explain the dogs crazy behavior lately! We also haven’t seen a clear sky in days, so just seeing a moon so full and bright was amazing!
1DSC_1780
January 4th:
The weather in Texas is a bit drunk- we’re in a deep freeze so cold that it froze our pool overnight! There is at least 2 inches of ice on the top of our pool! It was also pretty windy last night, so the pool froze with a very pretty ripply pattern to the surface.

Happy Mothers Day!

Alex and Ani is a popular line of charm bracelets, and a few months ago, my mom had mentioned wanting one. So a few weeks ago I went on the website to pick one out for her for Mother’s Day. I was searching through all the beautiful designs when I came across the travel section which featured several popular destinations– I was over the moon when I discovered there was a Jersey Girl one! (Not every state was represented, so this made it even more special). I sent it to my sister and she agreed that we should get three- one for each of us. So happy Mother’s Day to my mom- even though we’re far apart, we have our Jersey Girl bracelets to keep us together!

Destin, FL

Our last weekend in Alabama was spent with friends down in Destin, Florida. The sunshine state was lacking in sunshine when we got there, so we visited the beach really quickly, and then did some sightseeing around town.

1DSC01866

For dinner, we went to this adorable little town that looked like the quintessential French Quarter.

1DSC01870

And after spending the evening catching up with friends, we headed out to the lake to light some sky lanterns.
